about the event

friday, december 6th, 6pm-8pm orientation via zoom

saturday, december 7th, 9am-4pm at birthroots (lunch on your own)

sunday, december 8th, 9am-4pm at birthroots (lunch on your own)

this non-residential retreat weekend is an intimate and experiential workshop that uses chaplain, midwife, and doula skills to teach active listening, container building, and narrative stewardship techniques.  it introduces participants to the transformative power of eliciting and caring for our clients' personal narratives, and it teaches the deep listening and curious inquiry skills that make space for and support the sharing of fertility, pregnancy, birth, loss, and postpartum stories in client encounters.

the weekend will also make room for healing and transformative storytelling of our own, and there will be optional reflective journaling/meditation prompts to consider both before and after our time together, as well as optional framing for giving the weekend a full retreat feeling.

the event is offered on a wide sliding scale to provide easier access to those who need it, as well as to create opportunities for peer support for those with a little more resource comfort.

the sliding scale:

$150 for black and indigenous doulas in the spirit of repair

$250 for people who need the most peer support

$350 for people who need a little peer support

$450 is the support-neutral cost of the workshop

$550 provides the resources necessary to facilitate the peer-supported levels

there are no questions asked, and i empower you to place yourself where you best fit.  sometimes we need to support, and sometimes we need to be supported.  if you would like more guidance on choosing where you fall on a sliding scale, i highly recommend checking out alexis j. cunningfolk's green bottle tool.

payment options:

if you prefer not to use a card through wix, you are welcome to send via venmo, and if you choose this option, you can also reserve your place in the workshop with a non-refundable deposit of $75, with the remaining balance due by september 1, 2024.  if you choose venmo, please send to @chaplainabby and follow with an email to abby@thehearthchaplain.com letting me know your sliding scale point.

this promises to be a transformative weekend, and I look forward to meeting all of you!
